About us

Not Just Neat is a Canadian nonprofit that helps people understand obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). We work with registered psychologists, psychotherapists, and psychiatrists to create clear, trustworthy information, free in French and English.

How it works

We are not a health care provider or clinic. We're a bridge between the people who understand OCD best and the people who need to understand it.

Experts create it

Registered clinicians help write every page in plain language, then review and sign it before it goes live.

We publish it free

Every article is free to read and listen to, in French and English, for every age. The person searching at 2 a.m. shouldn't have to pay to understand what's happening to them.

Donations spread it

Your support puts reliable information in front of the parent, the teen, or the grandparent who would otherwise find the myths first.

A message from our Founder

Hey everyone, and thank you for being here. Everything on Not Just Neat was built with licensed health experts, and I really hope it helps you, or someone you love, understand OCD a little better. I've lived with OCD for most of my life. For a long time, I didn't know what it was. I had no tools, no treatment, and no idea what was happening to me. My teens and early 20s were chaotic. And even when those years were behind me, the hard stuff didn't go away. It stuck with me, and slowly turned into obsessions. I struggled alone for years before I finally got a diagnosis. That diagnosis changed a lot. With medication and a psychologist who actually got it, I started learning how to break my spirals. I learned that a thought can feel real without being true. That I don't need to control everything to be okay. That my OCD goes straight for my deepest fears, and loves to turn the most unlikely scenarios into a reality I need to prepare for. But I slowly got better, and a huge part of that came from simply understanding what was going on: how the pathology works, the complex chemistry behind the human brain, the science of OCD. Understanding it was one of the first real steps in getting better. That's why I built this. That's why Not Just Neat exists, because information is power, it is freedom, it is wealth. My hope is that together, and with the right information i we can help people stop fighting their OCD, and learn that it's something they can live with, and even thrive with.

Clinical committee

Our content is reviewed by a committee that includes a psychologist specialized in exposure and response prevention (ERP), a child psychiatrist, a clinician in geriatrics, and people with lived experience of OCD.

Funding

Not Just Neat is funded by public donations, foundation grants, and aligned sponsors. Never by advertising, and never by selling data.

Your donations pay the registered mental health experts who work with us, create free educational information about OCD, and amplify it so it reaches the people who need it.
